The Scare in the Stench

Yes... I might possibly be a little Bones obsessed. If you know Bones, then you know what I'm referring too.

ANYWAY, last night Scott (while doped up on Ambien) woke me up, to help him figure out where a mysterious, horrendously nasty smell was coming from.

Point #1: Neither of us were all-together coherent.

So we searched the house, following our noses in a game of "hotter and colder" trying to figure out what was causing this horrible stench. However, we both have been sick for the past two weeks.

Point #2: Trying to smell with a stuffed-up and runny nose doesn't work well.

We finally narrowed it down to the kitchen or living room and started to freak out wondering if we had a gas leak and were going to die if we kept breathing it in. But, after thoroughly smelling out the mentioned areas we came to the conclusion that the smell must be coming from the running dishwasher.

Point #3: Trust your instincts (and nose) even if you are sick and not-all-there.

So we opened the windows, went to bed, and hoped that the smell would clear out. Turns out we didn't die in the night (thankfully) so this morning I did some detective work and found this in the bottom of the dishwasher:
It's a half burned away container for Landon's baby food. It was wedged underneath some metal ring in the bottom of the dishwasher that obviously gets hot enough to cook away plastic.

Moral of the story: Hand wash these containers.

I'm glad you guys didn't die! I would have been very upset! Too bad I wasn't there to help you two out. I'm an expert at identifying smells- I have burned quite a few items in my dishwasher :) You would think I would learn my lesson.
